Higher Education Minister: Steady Progress Toward Stabilizing Universities and Improving Learning Environment

Khartoum, April 7, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Professor Ahmed Modawi Musa affirmed that the state is moving steadily to support and stabilize the education sector, noting that tangible progress reflects a genuine commitment to advancing higher education and scientific research despite the country’s exceptional circumstances. The remarks came during his meeting on Tuesday at his office with the Vice-Chancellor of West Kordofan University, Professor Sayid Ali Fadl Al-Mawla, in the presence of the Director of the Minister’s Executive Office, Dr. Mortada Ali Othman. The meeting reviewed the progress of the academic process and the challenges facing the university following extensive damage to its infrastructure as a result of attacks on higher education and research institutions by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. The Minister underscored that sustaining academic continuity and ensuring stability in universities’ academic and administrative functions remain top priorities, pointing to the significant efforts undertaken by the Ministry to prevent disruption to the educational process. He reaffirmed his full commitment to supporting Sudanese universities and continuing efforts to create a safe and conducive learning environment that enables students and faculty members to perform their duties effectively, contributing to national recovery and development. For his part, Professor Sayid Ali Fadl Al-Mawla commended the Ministry’s role in restoring stability to educational institutions, praising its sustained efforts. He noted that the increase in salaries for faculty members and support staff by more than 100 percent reflects the state’s serious commitment to supporting higher education personnel and improving their conditions. He added that West Kordofan University faced highly complex circumstances, but the determination and resilience of its staff helped overcome challenges and achieve key objectives, foremost among them maintaining the continuity and stability of the academic process. He concluded by affirming that these achievements mark an important step toward the full recovery of the higher education sector, expressing hope for continued support to enable universities to fully restore their activities and leading role in serving society.BH/BH
