Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Motasem Ahmed Saleh, held discussions with Uganda’s Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Lillian Aber, on practical arrangements to facilitate the voluntary return of Sudanese nationals wishing to return home, within the framework of the work of the National High Committee for Voluntary Return and Reintegration. The Minister expressed Sudan’s appreciation for Uganda’s hosting of Sudanese nationals during the years of war, commending their contributions in the fields of health, education and investment.The Ugandan Minister expressed strong cooperation and agreed to expedite and simplify return procedures and close the refugee files of those wishing to return voluntarily. She also tasked the Commissioner for Refugees with appointing a focal point to facilitate the process. The two sides agreed to consider allocating a dedicated pathway at Entebbe International Airport for returnees and to continue coordination to ensure a safe and dignified return. The Minister also met with a number of Sudanese beneficiaries of an initiative by Direct Aid Organization and presented travel tickets to 300 returnees as part of 1,200 tickets provided by the organization in support of the voluntary return programme. The Minister affirmed that return is entirely voluntary and that the role of the committee is limited to organizing, facilitating and supporting reintegration. He stressed that the doors of the homeland are open to all those wishing to return, without conditions.BH/BH
