KHARTOUM, Aug. 11, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare Mo’tasem Ahmed Saleh on Tuesday received a World Food Programme (WFP) delegation led by Jean Martin, Director of Food Security and Planning at the WFP headquarters in Rome, in the presence of WFP Country Director in Sudan Samuel Clindon and other officials. The meeting discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the ministry and WFP in food security, social protection and support for vulnerable groups, with a focus on moving from humanitarian response to sustainable recovery programs, strengthening livelihoods and promoting production. The two sides agreed to form a joint technical team to develop implementation mechanisms for the agreed areas of cooperation and prepare a memorandum of understanding to regulate their partnership during the coming phase under a clear joint action plan. The WFP delegation also expressed readiness to explore supporting the voluntary return program by helping provide services at reception centers and crossing points, delivering food assistance to returnees, and supporting productive households, small enterprises, and youth and women’s programs. The assistance would be linked to productive opportunities and improved incomes to promote self-reliance and economic and social stability. The minister underscored the importance of partnership with WFP, praising its readiness to cooperate in implementing joint programs and initiatives. He expressed hope for an effective partnership that would empower citizens economically, support recovery and stability efforts, and facilitate the transition from receiving assistance to production and sustainable development.BH/BH
