Amman, Aug. 12 (Petra) — Independent Election Commission (IEC)
Chairman Musa Maaytah emphasized on Wednesday the importance of
raising awareness among university students on core issues,
leveraging digital transformation to enhance engagement in democracy,
political parties, student council elections, and civic activities.

Speaking during the Digital Interaction Week aimed at promoting youth
electoral participation organized by Yarmouk University’s Leadership,
Entrepreneurship, and Innovation course in partnership with the IEC
Maaytah highlighted that gaining political knowledge empowers young
people.

In the presence of Yarmouk University Vice President Amjad Al-Naser,
Maaytah noted that participating in student council elections serves
as practical preparation for future general elections, encouraging
active engagement and helping prepare students to join political and
public life.

Al-Naser said the initiative reflects Yarmouk University’s belief
that personal development is just as crucial as academic knowledge,
describing higher education institutions as platforms for building
conscious, responsible, and engaged citizens.

He stressed the need to trust youth and provide them with
opportunities to innovate, commending the IEC’s national role in
promoting political awareness and electoral culture among students.

The Digital Interaction Week targets 1,600 students enrolled in the
Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation course. The program
utilizes interactive scenarios and a competition application
developed by the IEC to educate youth on the commission’s electoral
management processes.
