MARRAKECH, June 10, 2026 (SUNA) — Director General of the General Intelligence Service, General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, is taking part in the fifth high-level meeting of heads of counter-terrorism and security agencies in Africa, known as the “Marrakech Platform.” The event, which opened on June 9 in the city of Al-Jadida, Morocco, is being jointly organized by the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and runs for two days. General Mufaddal is leading a high-level Sudanese delegation comprising counter-terrorism experts, with the objective of strengthening joint security coordination and exchanging strategic assessments and perspectives on current challenges and emerging threats affecting regional and international security. Sudan outlined its assessment of the terrorist threats facing the African continent and underscored the role it plays in regional and continental counter-terrorism efforts, drawing on its geostrategic position.   The meeting has attracted broad international and regional participation, reflecting growing cooperation and coordination in the security sphere. Approximately 40 African security and intelligence agencies are taking part, alongside 90 observer delegations representing countries from the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and the Americas, underscoring the increasing international commitment to supporting peace and stability across Africa. The Marrakech Platform is regarded as one of the leading annual international security forums, bringing together senior security officials, strategic experts, and policymakers to examine evolving security dynamics and develop forward-looking approaches to addressing threats to international peace and security.BH/BH
