Iraqi PM announces Arab reconstruction fund at Baghdad summit

Baghdad, May 17 (Petra) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani announced at an Arab summit in Baghdad Saturday 18 “ambitious” initiatives to enhance joint Arab action, including setting up an Arab Fund for post-crisis recovery and reconstruction efforts.

He said Iraq will contribute $20 million for the reconstruction of Gaza and $20 million for Lebanon.

“We’ve never seen anything like what the Palestinians are being exposed to throughout history”, Al-Sudani told the gathering, renewing a call for a ceasefire and an end to Israeli massacres in the Gaza Strip.

He reiterated categorical rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians “in all its forms”, and called for an end to the massacres and the crippling blockade in Gaza.

“Our vision on ending regional crises starts with the Palestinian people regaining all their rights,” he stressed.

He also said Iraq backs a ceasefire in Lebanon and expressed support for a stable Syria.
