Amman, Jan 7 (Petra) — The Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) said its exports in 2024 were at JD7.164 billion, slightly down from JD7.171 billion in the previous year.
The export figures, which were 0.1 percent down from 2023, were almost steady despite the conditions in the region, said the chamber’s president Fathi Jaghbir.
These reflect the level Jordanian industry has reached and its resilience and ability to expand to non-traditional markets amid the “exceptional regional conditions,” he told Petra in an interview.
He cited a 11.2 percent rise in certificates of origin issued last year, reaching 108,000, compared to 97,000 in 2023, an indication of “remarkable” growth in exports and shipments, especially those of manufacturing industries.
Seven sub sectors recorded a rise in their exports in 2024, including plastic industries sector, about 21.4 percent, and chemicals and cosmetics, 21.4 percent, said Jaghbir.
The exports of the other three industrial sectors dropped: construction by 4.8 percent, mining 23.3 percent, and packaging, paper, cardboard and medical supplies 4.1 percent, he said.
He singled out a significant shrink in mining exports, which were down JD500 million, and owed it to a decline in global prices.
Industrial exports to traditional partners, namely Arab countries consuming labor-intensive products, recorded a growth of 17 percent, and exports to North America were mainly jewelry and clothing, he said.
