Amman, June 18 (Petra) — The joint chairs of the United Nations High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, comprising Saudi Arabia and France, voiced grave concern over the ongoing escalation and recent developments that have led to the suspension of the conference.

In a joint statement, representatives from the conference’s working groups, including Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Norway, Qatar, Senegal, Spain, Turkey, the UK, the EU, and the Arab League, emphasized that the escalating tensions highlight the region’s instability and reinforce the urgent need for calm, international legal norms, and renewed diplomatic momentum.

Despite the delay, the joint chairs reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the conference’s goals and pledged to resume discussions soon. They underlined the importance of the working groups’ input in shaping coordinated international commitments that reflect a shared determination to implement the two-state solution.

The statement also stressed the need to uphold state sovereignty and international law, while promoting peace, dignity, and freedom for all peoples in the region. The co-chairs reiterated their strong support for efforts to end the war in Gaza and pursue a lasting, just resolution to the Palestinian question that ensures stability and security for the broader region.
