Damascus, May 26 (Petra) — The Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) said Monday that it is planning to build a new phase of economic partnership with Syria, emphasizing Jordan’s commitment to supporting its Syria.

During an official visit to Damascus, the head of the delegation, Senator Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, conveyed a clear message: Jordan is leveraging all its capabilities and expertise to serve Syria’s economy in the coming period.

The meeting between the JCC and the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce highlighted numerous avenues for enhancing economic cooperation. Key focus areas included trade, transport, shipping, logistics, industry, agriculture, banking and food sectors.

The gathering agreed on the importance of developing a comprehensive “roadmap” to lay a solid foundation for future collaboration and coordination. The roadmap will include details on investment cooperation, the role of business owners and joint efforts in reconstruction and development projects.

Organised by both chambers, the meeting stressed the need to elevate economic relations to a stage that facilitates business operations and addresses existing obstacles. This will enable Jordan to benefit from Syria’s move toward a free economy and expanded economic opportunities.

Tawfiq stated, “Our delegation seeks to establish a new phase of economic cooperation that serves the interests of both our nations, which share deep fraternal ties. We aim to move forward together toward development, participation and mutual support, especially in Syria’s reconstruction efforts.”

He added that the delegation, representing Jordan’s commercial and service sectors under the umbrella of the JCC, is ready to offer the expertise of the Jordanian private sector to the Syrian counterparts.

Tawfiq emphasised Jordan’s commitment to providing all necessary support and facilitation to enhance transport and trade flows between the two countries.

He highlighted that activating cooperation through trade and investment in vital sectors with high added value is crucial for the economic well-being of both nations. Tawfiq urged further communication and collaboration to overcome obstacles hindering business activities and to promote economic growth.

The delegation includes representatives from various sectors eager to explore Syria’s abundant opportunities and to identify steps to advance joint efforts in the new phase of Syria’s economic future.

For his part, Syrian Federation of Chambers of Commerce President Alaa Ali expressed high regard for Jordan, its leadership and its people, appreciating their ongoing support for Syria’s recovery and international reintegration.

He reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to strengthening relations and expanding cooperation in various fields.

Ali emphasised the importance of developing cooperation and increasing the competitiveness of both countries’ products, especially within regional markets. He noted that shared economic challenges necessitate coordinated efforts to achieve mutual benefits.

He pointed out that the meetings scheduled during the delegation’s visit aim to establish continuous communication channels between the two countries, serving as a crucial mechanism to reevaluate and enhance trade exchanges, including import and export activities.

Ali urged reevaluating partnership agreements, particularly following the recent decision to lift international sanctions on Syria, which paves the way for a new era of economic collaboration.

Ali referred to the memorandum of understanding signed last week between the Jordanian and Syrian governments, establishing a Higher Coordination Council to address various issues of mutual interest.

The economic delegation, comprising heads of chambers of commerce and representatives from the commercial and service sectors, is set to hold intensive meetings over three days with Syrian government officials, business leaders and chambers of commerce.

The visit, coordinated directly with the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and the Jordanian Embassy in Damascus, aims to reactivate the Jordanian-Syrian Joint Business Council.

It includes preparations for organising an economic business forum in Amman in the near future, marking a new chapter of partnership and economic integration between the two nations.
