Amman, July 12 (Petra) – The Public Security Directorate (PSD) and Europol, the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation, on Saturday signed a “working arrangement” aimed at supporting member states of the bloc and Jordan in preventing and combating cross-border crime.

The agreement, a legal framework for cooperation and exchange of expertise between Europol and Jordanian law enforcement agencies, will enable the two sides to work on migrant smuggling, drug trafficking, money laundering and firearms smuggling.

It includes the possibility of exchanging specialized expertise, participating in training programs, and providing advice and support in individual criminal investigations.

Under the arrangement, the PSD will designate a national contact point to facilitate cooperation between Europol and Jordanian law enforcement agencies. It also allows for appointing a Europol liaison officer, joining the network of liaison offices that comprises law enforcement authorities from more than 50 countries.

With the entry into force of the arrangement, the EU and Jordan will step up cooperation in combating cross-border crime, enhancing Europol’s cooperation with another key partner in the Middle East.

“The signing of this arrangement is a pivotal step in our joint efforts to address challenges and crimes affecting the European Union, member states, and Jordan,” commente Catherine De Bolle, Executive Director of Europol.
