Amman, May 27 (Petra) – Chairman of the Board of the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (IACC) , Dr. Muhannad Hijazi, said accurate information and data, based on extensive analysis, constitute a “key” pillar for supporting anti-corruption efforts and instilling integrity values ? in society.

Hijazi added that this action would enable countries to build a “more equitable” future characterized by transparency, equality, equal opportunity, and effective justice.

Hijazi’s remarks came during his speech at the opening ceremony of a regional workshop, organized by the Arab Anti-Corruption & Integrity Network (ACINET), in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme and in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), under the theme: “Investing in the Power of Data to Support the Fight Against Corruption for Sustainable Development.”

Hijazi stated implementation of the IACC-launched National Integrity Index (NII) is “not merely a monitoring tool, rather a fundamental step to building a more just and transparent future for all by implementing an integrated system that contributes to building more efficient and just government institutions.”

Hijazi stated the process of implementing the NII requires reliance on accurate and up-to-date data that cares about differences in various institutions and sectors to ensure the “greatest possible positive” impact in promoting integrity and improving institutional performance.

Additionally, Hijazi indicated accurate data are the “firewall” that will protect societies from the attacks of corrupt individuals and serve as a bridge to achieving sustainable development.

During the opening ceremony held in Amman, several opening remarks focused on the importance of orchestrating all efforts and enhancing effective stakeholder cooperation to leverage data to combat corruption to achieve sustainable development.

The three-day event, attended by approximately 100 participants, brings together representatives of Arab anti-corruption, integrity and oversight bodies,, independent experts, and workers from government, business, civil society, academia, and international organizations.

As for the final two sessions, discussions will go over measuring performance of anti-corruption bodies in public procurement, which would provide additional perspectives to prioritise anti-corruption and sustainable development nexus and offer effective solutions to raise cooperation level to achieve development goals.
