Amman, January 27 (Petra) – A delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources visited the Ministry of Water and Irrigation on Monday to reinforce collaboration in water resource management under a memorandum of understanding.
Secretary-General of the Ministry of Water, Jihad Mahamid, stated that the visit includes meetings and site visits aimed at sharing expertise within the framework of a cooperation program. The discussions focus on Jordan’s experience in water resource management, particularly seawater desalination through the National Carrier Project.
Mahamid highlighted that a joint technical committee will convene to implement the memorandum of understanding provisions and draft a proposed work plan for studying transboundary water resources in the Hamad Basin.
The Iraqi delegation will also visit the Zara Ma’in desalination plant to explore advanced techniques used by the Ministry of Water in addressing challenges and enhancing resource management, in line with the National Water Strategy (2023–2040) to achieve water security and sustainable development.
Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources Technical Advisor Alaa El-Din Najm underscored the significance of partnerships and exchanging expertise to tackle shared water challenges in the Arab region, exacerbated by climate change and the growing gap between water supply and demand.
