Tunis, May 26 (Petra) – Jordan will be the guest of honor at the sixth edition of the International Environmental Film Festival, held in the city of Gabès (southeast Tunisia) from May 31 to June 3, 2025.
Festival director Fouad Karim said at a press conference held on Monday in the Tunisian capital to present the event’s details that Jordan’s selection as guest of honor reflects recognition of the country’s leadership in environmental cinema and its active engagement in climate and sustainable culture issues.
As part of Jordan’s participation, the festival will open with the screening of the film “Trawida” by Mouni Abu Samra, which tells the story of a young geological researcher stranded in the vast desert after sudden rains caused by climate change lead to the death of her colleagues, triggering a quest for survival.
Jordan’s participation is further highlighted by the inclusion of veteran actress Abeer Issa on the festival’s jury panel, chaired by Tunisian actor and theater professor Khaled Bouzid, alongside members Mustafa Al-Shawki from Iraq and director Bernard Derou from France.
Meanwhile, the festival’s honorary president, actress Wahida Al-Draidi, noted that out of 59 films submitted to the festival, the selection committee chose 17 works from 15 Arab and foreign countries.
The festival was launched in 2014 in the coastal city of Gabès, which faces serious environmental problems due to pollution caused by the industrial zone.
Since then, the festival has taken on an international dimension, reflecting the participation of many countries facing environmental challenges.
