Amman, Aug. 10 (Petra) — HRH Prince Asem bin Nayef on Monday
sponsored the launch of the Al Mahr An-Nabawi “Prophet Dowry”
initiative and the Jordanian National Charter for Facilitating
Marriage, aimed at promoting moderation in marriage costs, easing
financial burdens on young people, and strengthening family and
community stability.

Under the initiative, the Prophet Dowry is set at 500 silver dirhams,
equivalent to about 1,500 grams of pure silver. Based on current
silver prices, its value is estimated at around JD2,000, serving as a
Prophet benchmark for dowries.

The initiative comes amid challenges facing young people, most
notably rising marriage costs, delayed marriage, and reluctance to
marry. It seeks to promote a culture of facilitating marriage and
strengthen solidarity and partnership among government, religious,
and community institutions and the private sector.

The National Charter for Facilitating Marriage is a national document
and a non-legally binding social commitment, supported by government,
religious, community, academic, and media bodies. It aims to support
people preparing for marriage and strengthen family stability.
