Jordan lowers, unifies fees on Syrian trucks-Finance ministry

Amman, June 15 (Petra) – Ministry of Finance on Sunday decided to reduce and unify fees collected on Syrian trucks and chiller lorries.

The decision covers loaded or empty trucks, transiting through Jordanian territory, or entering and exiting Jordanian free zones, as a fee for road traffic services.

Under the new step, fees will be calculated in accordance with a specific formula, becoming 2% instead of 5%, as the target Syrian trucks entering and exiting the Kingdom are exempt from this amount.

In a press statement, Ministry of Transport said this move was made, in coordination with ministries of finance, industry and transport, and Jordan Customs Department, aimed to facilitate transit traffic and the flow of goods between Jordan and Syria, and support mutual trade exchanges.

The statement indicated that this decision was a “direct” outcome of a recent visit by a Jordanian ministerial delegation to Syria.

During the meetings, the statement said the two sides agreed on slew of steps to strengthen the joint economic activities and stimulate reciprocal transport and trade traffic.
