Amman, May 18 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, on Sunday met with Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Maxim Markovich, on the sidelines of his participation in the “Russia – Islamic World: Kazan Forum 2025” Forum, which kicked off in Tatarstan, with the participation of 103 countries representing various continents.
During the meeting, the two sides affirmed the “deep-rooted” bilateral relations, noting the two countries’ keenness to strengthen joint cooperation frameworks, especially in the agricultural sector, which is a “main” pillar of economic development and food security.
Hneifat and Markovich discussed ways to enhance mutual agricultural trade, particularly aimed to facilitating the flow of agricultural goods and products, and addressing challenges related to customs duties and taxes imposed on Jordanian exports to the Russian market.
Both sides also went over the possibility of expanding the list of Jordanian agricultural products permitted to enter Russian markets, which would open “new” horizons for Jordanian farmers and enhance access to Russian markets.
On future steps, Hneifat noted the importance of activating joint technical cooperation and exchanging expertise in the fields of scientific research and modern agricultural technologies, which would contribute to raising production “efficiency” and achieving “sustainability” in the sector.
According to a ministry statement, the two sides agreed to prepare for the meetings of the Jordanian-Russian Joint Committee scheduled to take place during the second half of this year.
The statement stated these projected discussions seek to follow up on implementing the agreed-upon items and explore cooperation opportunities in “broader” areas, including food security, investment in agricultural production, and development of supply chains.
Today’s meetings are part of Jordan’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships and diversify export markets, which would “positively” impact the national economy and the agricultural sector.
