Amman, May 27 (Petra) — Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Mahmoud Hmoud was elected as a judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2025-2027 term on Tuesday during a session at the UN Security Council and General Assembly.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates spokesperson Sufian Qudah said Ambassador Hmoud’s election reflects UN member states’ confidence in his expertise and ability to serve on the ICJ with integrity and professionalism.

Qudah stated that Hmoud’s election in the ICJ reinforces the Court’s role in upholding the rule of international law and underscores the widespread respect and trust that Jordan enjoys globally.

It demonstrates the international community’s recognition of Jordan’s dedication to promoting respect for international law, defending international legitimacy, supporting multilateral diplomacy and resolving disputes peacefully principles rooted in the UN Charter and international legal frameworks.

He expressed the Kingdom’s gratitude to all countries that supported Jordan’s nomination of Ambassador Hmoud for the ICJ.

He reaffirmed Jordan’s unwavering commitment to supporting the ICJ as the principal judicial organ of the UN and to collaborating with international partners to strengthen adherence to international law.
