Amman, Dec. 22 (Petra) – Medical teams at the Jordanian Field Hospital in southern Gaza (Gaza/8) successfully performed a complex surgical procedure Sunday on a 21-year-old patient suffering from an enlarged spleen caused by thalassemia.
The hospital’s commander said the operation was carried out with a high level of efficiency by specialized medical, anesthesia, and operating room teams, as part of the hospital’s continued efforts to provide advanced medical care to the people of the Gaza Strip amid extremely challenging conditions.
A general surgeon at the hospital explained that the patient required urgent surgical intervention due to dependence on weekly blood transfusions, which resulted in iron overload and complications affecting the heart muscle. A complete splenectomy was performed following all necessary medical preparations, and the procedure was completed successfully.
The patient’s family expressed their appreciation for the humanitarian and medical efforts of the Jordanian Field Hospital teams, praising their role in alleviating the suffering of residents in the Gaza Strip.
