Zarqa, Dec 20 (Petra) – Dr. Issa Barhouma, Professor of Linguistics at the Faculty of Arts/ Hashemite University, won the 2025 Sharjah Award for Language and Lexical Studies for his book “Bonds of the Text: Textual Linguistic Studies in Poetry and Narrative.”
“This distinguished academic achievement reflects the research competence of faculty members, and underlines the university’s robust presence in Arab academic forums, as well as its contribution to serving the Arabic language and contemporary linguistic studies,” the university said in a press release.
Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, United Arab Emirates’ Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah, honored the winners in the various categories of the award on Thursday, in the presence of a select group of researchers and academics.
Barhouma has received several prestigious awards, including the Arab Geographical Literature Award for Best Arabic Edition of Travel Literature, organized by Abu Dhabi and London and the Distinguished Researcher Award from the University of Jordan, in addition to publications in the fields of linguistics and civilization and dozens of peer-reviewed scientific papers and distinguished participation in international, regional, and local conferences.
The Sharjah award is one of the most prestigious international awards highly sought after by researchers from within and outside the Arab world, where submissions undergo a rigorous evaluation by a select group of scholars from various Arab countries.
