Jordanians Renew Commitment to National Values, Social Cohesion as 2026 Begins

Amman, Dec. 31 (Petra) – With the advent of the 2026 Gregorian year, Jordanians are renewing their resolve to strengthen national and social values, encourage active participation in building a cohesive society capable of facing challenges with determination and confidence, and uphold a deeply rooted Jordanian identity based on moderation, respect for religious and cultural diversity, and the values of coexistence, tolerance and social solidarity in an atmosphere of joy.

Stakeholders told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that celebrating the New Year is a renewed opportunity to promote love and harmony and to move into a new year with a more solidary and fraternal spirit, noting that the arrival of the new year represents an annual milestone through which people look forward to renewing hope for peace.

Director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media Father Rifaat Bader said the occasion of the Gregorian New Year constitutes a unifying national milestone that contributes to strengthening the system of shared values among the various components of Jordanian society, given the meanings of joy and hope for a better future it carries, and reflects one of the most prominent pillars of Jordanian society, namely social cohesion, the elevation of human and moral values, and the consolidation of harmony.

He added that the occasion serves as a reminder of the duty of solidarity with the less fortunate who are unable to experience joy, noting that this is embodied through humanitarian initiatives implemented by churches and a number of community institutions by collecting donations and providing support to underprivileged families during the holiday period, without any religious or social discrimination, in a manner that enhances an atmosphere of familiarity and solidarity among members of the same society.

Bader pointed out that giving in Jordan is a unifying human value that springs from a spirit of chivalry and social responsibility, as good is offered as a message and a behavior deeply rooted in the conscience of Jordanians. He stressed that New Year’s is a renewed opportunity to promote love and harmony and to move toward a new year with a more solidary and fraternal spirit among all أبناء الوطن, referring to what was stated in the message of His Holiness Pope Leo titled “Peace Be With You All,” in which he called for reflection on a future filled with optimism and hope and for working to entrench the values of goodness, love and peace in daily life.

For his part, Economus Ibrahim Dabbour said the beginning of the new year represents an important milestone in a person’s life, carrying wishes and aspirations, expressing hope that peace and harmony will prevail among people and that love will spread among all.

Dabbour explained that New Year celebrations are characterized by family gatherings and the sharing of joy, which strengthens kinship ties and bonds of familiarity and affection among individuals, noting that the occasion constitutes an important opportunity for social communication and for strengthening relations among relatives and friends.

He pointed to the importance of initiatives that can be launched by religious and social leaders through organizing inclusive events and occasions that bring together various segments of society, Muslims and Christians, with the aim of strengthening joint action and supporting the poor and needy, stressing that such initiatives contribute to spreading a spirit of cooperation and solidarity and to entrenching shared human values among members of the same society.

For his part, the parish priest of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Economus Butros Michel Butros Janho, pointed to the efforts of religious leaders in entrenching the values of coexistence and societal peace through renewing religious discourse based on tolerance and moderation.

He stressed that interfaith dialogue is a fundamental pillar for unifying the efforts of the various components of society in building peace, achieving sustainable development and strengthening the concept of citizenship, emphasizing the importance of focusing on shared human values, foremost among them love, justice and respect for others. He noted that youth constitute the pillar of the future and the foundation of the renaissance of nations, which necessitates intensifying efforts to instill moral and human values in them, foremost honesty, sincerity, truthfulness and steadfastness in faith, and empowering them to face various challenges with confidence and firm will.

He added that the arrival of the new year represents an annual milestone through which people look forward to renewing hope, expressing his hope that the new year will bring goodness, blessing and prosperity, that citizens’ aspirations will be realized, and that all will enjoy security, peace and peace of mind.
