Beirut, Jan. 9 (Petra) – The Lebanese Parliament elected Army Chief Joseph Aoun as president on Thursday, securing 99 votes, thus becoming the fourteenth President of Lebanon after a two-year vacancy in the presidency.
The election was concluded in a second session after the first session failed to achieve the required votes for Aoun’s victory.
Aoun is set to deliver his inauguration speech, outlining the main priorities for his six-year term, in the presence of diplomats, ambassadors, and UN representatives in Lebanon.
