Khartoum, April 6, 2026 (SUNA) — Minister of Justice Dr. Abdullah Dirif met on Monday with a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), led by Head of Delegation Daniel O’Malley, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry, the Director of Human Rights, and the Executive Office Director. At the outset, the Minister welcomed the delegation and commended the ICRC’s work and efforts in Sudan, affirming full coordination and cooperation. The meeting discussed avenues for coordination and engagement with the National Committee on International Humanitarian Law, including advancing technical support, training, and capacity-building assistance that the ICRC could provide. Discussions also covered Sudan’s participation in the Global Initiative on International Humanitarian Law, with the delegation expressing readiness to support Sudan’s engagement and efforts to join the initiative. The Minister further raised the issue of forcibly disappeared persons and civilian detainees held by the rebel militia and transferred to Darfur, highlighting the potential role of the ICRC in this regard. Both sides agreed to designate representatives from the national committee and the ICRC as focal points to enhance coordination.
