Kassala, May 18, 2026 (SUNA) – The Security Committee of Kassala State issued a clarification statement to the public regarding reports circulating on social media about an explosion that occurred near Kassala city in the early hours of Sunday, 18 May, which caused concern among citizens. The statement said that the competent security agencies immediately moved to the site, inspected the incident, and verified its nature. It added that the explosion involved a truck and a pickup vehicle in the Abu Talha area west of Kassala, resulting in the death of five people and a number of livestock. According to the statement, preliminary information indicated that the truck was carrying smuggled explosives used in mining activities along with livestock. The committee urged citizens to verify information and avoid rumors that may cause panic. It also affirmed that it continues to monitor the security situation with full transparency in order to maintain stability in the state.BH/BH
