KHARTOUM, March 27, 2026 (SUNA) – A massive joint restoration and environmental sanitation campaign continued for its second consecutive day in downtown Khartoum, aimed at clearing war remnants and rehabilitating the area. The initiative has seen broad participation from various ministries, state agencies, specialized councils, and local authorities across Khartoum State.Ihab Hashim Ismail, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Local Government and Chairman of the State Environmental Support Committee, confirmed that the campaign follows directives from the Higher Committee for Emergencies and Crisis Management. The primary objective is to prepare the environment for the safe return of citizens to the capital. More than 20 entities are taking part, including Khartoum State ministries, the Khartoum Central Military Zone, the Engineers’ Corps, the Khartoum State Police, and the Prison Authority.Ismail stated that the campaign focuses on removing war debris, waste, rubble, fallen trees, and weeds, as well as the recovery and relocation of destroyed or abandoned vehicles. He noted that the operation is scheduled to last for an entire week, following its official launch on Friday, by the Wali of Khartoum State and members of the State Security Committee.For his part, Abdel Moneim Al-Bashir, Executive Director of Khartoum Locality, commended the initiative led by the Wali of Khartoum State. He emphasized the strategic significance of Khartoum downtown as the heart of the state and noted that it remains one of the areas most severely impacted by the conflict, praising the collective efforts of all participating agencies.
