Beirut, October 18 (QNA) – Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and the region with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot.
The Lebanese Prime Minister emphasized the importance of supporting the Lebanese state in its efforts toward recovery and reconstruction in the south, helping residents remain on their land, restoring essential services, and strengthening the presence of state institutions. He acknowledged France’s continued backing of Lebanon, particularly its efforts aimed at achieving a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and extending state authority.
The two sides also reviewed international arrangements for the period following the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Salam stressed the necessity of avoiding any security vacuum in the south, calling for a continued international presence tasked with monitoring, reporting, and facilitating communication under the framework of a United Nations Security Council resolution.
Regarding the economic situation, the meeting addressed the financial and economic reforms currently being implemented by the government, alongside the importance of securing a program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help restore confidence in the Lebanese economy and support the recovery process.
