Lebanese President Underlines Importance of UNIFIL’s Continued Presence, Calls on EU to Support His Country’s Stability

Beirut, July 24 (QNA) – Lebanese President, General Joseph Aoun affirmed today that the continued presence of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is the best course of action for the coming period, adding that if this proves impossible, an alternative force should be established to replace it.
During a meeting today with European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Sandra De Wiley along with several ambassadors and charges d’affaires, Aoun stated that Lebanon’s stability impacts the stability of the region, urging the EU to support the implementation of the “framework formula.”
The Lebanese President emphasized his country’s commitment to the reform process, affirming that Lebanon continues working towards achieving its goals despite the challenges stemming from the war.
For her part, the EU Ambassador affirmed that Lebanon stands at a crossroads and the beginning of a new chapter, stressing the EU’s support for Lebanon in its pursuit of security, stability, and the implementation of reforms. (QNA)
