Jakarta, August 18 (QNA) – An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale stuck on Tuesday off the coast of Sumatra Island, Indonesia.
The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) said that the earthquake occurred off the Island, at a depth of 29 kilometers.
There have been no reports of casualties or material damage caused by the earthquake so far, nor have any tsunami warnings been issued.
Earthquakes frequently strike various parts of Indonesia, as the country lies along the Pacific belt known as the “Ring of Fire,” where multiple tectonic plates converge, causing frequent volcanic and seismic activity. (QNA)
