Major Drug Smuggling Attempt Foiled at Eastern Border

Amman, Aug. 10 (Petra) — The Eastern Military Region foiled an
attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into Jordan using
guided balloons along one of the Kingdom’s eastern border fronts
early Monday.

Border Guard units detected and tracked the balloons before
intercepting and bringing them down inside Jordanian territory, where
their cargo was seized in coordination with military security
agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department.

The seized narcotics were subsequently handed over to the competent
authorities for further action.

The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army said the operation underscores the
vigilance and operational readiness of Border Guard units in
confronting increasingly sophisticated smuggling methods and adapting
to changes in the techniques used by traffickers.

The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the
Kingdom’s borders and preventing their use for smuggling activities,
stressing that any attempt to threaten Jordan’s security or
territorial integrity will be met with firm action.
