Major U.S. stock indices surge as crude oil drops $4

New York, Aug. 3 (Petra) Major U.S. stock indices surged on Monday,
while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil fell by $4 to
settle at $80.15 per barrel.

At the close of trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 693
points, or 1.32 percent, to reach 53,178 points.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite leaped 540 points, or 2.13 percent,
to close at 25,913 points.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index gained approximately 110 points, or 1.48
percent, to finish at 7,600 points.
