KHARTOUM, June 11, 2026 (SUNA) — The General Authority of Meteorology said that climate forecasts and probabilities for the 2026 rainy season indicate that Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Uganda are expected to experience higher drought rates during the season, noting that the impact on Sudan will be comparatively lower according to the same forecasts. The Authority announced, during the 56th briefing conference of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Tourism and Antiquities, organized by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) in Omdurman, that the Third Climate Forum will be held on 15–16 June at Al Salam Rotana Hotel in Khartoum, with the participation of various climate-related sectors and institutions, aimed at taking necessary precautions and formulating required policies and measures. The Authority also noted forecasts of below-average rainfall in some parts of the country this season, with the possibility of moderate drought in certain areas, alongside expectations of higher-than-normal temperatures across Sudan. Addressing the conference, Mohamed Al-Sharif Mohamed Zain, Director of the Emergency Department at the Authority, and Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed, Head of the Authority’s Emergency Room, spoke about the onset of the rainy season, expected rainfall levels and temperatures, stressing that seasonal forecasts are issued regularly and constitute a critical basis for a wide range of planning and response measures.BH/BH
