Amman, June 30 (Petra) — Authorities have made arrests in connection with the recent methanol poisoning incidents that have now claimed nine lives and left 27 others injured across Amman, Zarqa, and Balqa governorates.

The Public Security Department (PSD) announced Monday that investigations have implicated a manufacturing facility, leading to the apprehension of key individuals.

According to a PSD media spokesperson, the ongoing inquiry confirmed the involvement of a production plant. Law enforcement officials have taken into custody those responsible for and working at the facility, including the employee specifically tasked with preparing the chemical mixtures.

This individual allegedly sourced the toxic methanol from another person, who then supplied it for the illicit production of alcoholic beverages.

Further investigative steps revealed that the supplier of the methanol admitted to purchasing the substance from a specific warehouse. Authorities subsequently raided this warehouse, seizing all materials found on the premises as evidence.

The PSD spokesperson confirmed that the number of fatalities resulting from methanol poisoning has tragically risen to nine, with 27 individuals sustaining injuries. The conditions of the injured range from moderate to severe.

Joint security teams, accompanied by representatives from the Jordan Food and Drug Administration, are continuing efforts to collect the tainted alcoholic products from the market.

Significant quantities of the contraband have already been seized. The spokesperson indicated that the case will be referred to the judiciary once all investigations are complete.
