Khartoum, August 25, 2026 (SUNA) — The Governor of Darfur Region, Mini Arko Minawi, returned to the country on Tuesday following a tour of several African and neighboring countries, during which he discussed developments in Sudan and the impact of the war on civilians. In a post on his official page, Minawi said the tour was part of efforts to engage with brothers and friends and explain the reality of the situation in Sudan, particularly the humanitarian crisis and the suffering endured by civilians as a result of the war. He said he held a series of meetings with officials and policymakers during the tour, during which he highlighted the scale of the humanitarian suffering and stressed the importance of strengthening humanitarian support, facilitating the delivery of aid to those in need, and ensuring the protection of civilians. Minawi said peace and ending the war were central themes in all the meetings, based on the conviction that a just and sustainable peace is the only way to end the suffering of the Sudanese people. He stressed that any future political process should be based on respect for Sudan’s sovereignty and unity, addressing the root causes of the crisis, and creating the conditions for genuine peace that ends the war, ensures accountability for those who committed crimes against the Sudanese people, and restores security and stability to the country. Minawi affirmed that the delegation returned to Sudan carrying clear messages from its African and international partners, noting that it would continue working from within the country to end the war, achieve peace, alleviate the suffering of civilians, and build a safe and stable state that embraces all its citizens without exclusion or marginalization. He said everyone’s responsibility today is to place Sudan’s interests and those of its people above all else, work seriously to end the war, and pave the way for a new phase of peace, stability, and reconstruction.BH/BH
