Baqaa, May 27 (Petra) — Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat opened on Tuesday Orange Jordan’s new data centre in Ain Al Basha District, Balqa.

In a statement, Orange highlighted that the new data centre has been designed with a modular, flexible and scalable architecture, incorporating several innovative environmental solutions.

These include advanced operational protections such as double thermal insulation, energy-efficient cooling systems and heat recycling to aid in heating, all of which contribute to reducing carbon emissions.

The company noted that the centre is built on a historic site dating back to 1972 and has been developed according to the highest engineering standards to withstand environmental risks such as earthquakes and floods, ensuring continuous business operations.

The data centre features a comprehensive security system to safeguard digital assets, including multi-layered security measures, dual entry points, 24/7 surveillance and strict access controls managed through a secure operations centre.

Colocation clients benefit from a range of amenities within an 80,000-square-meter campus, including hotel rooms, dedicated workspaces, meeting rooms, flexible office services, hospitality options and sports facilities such as a dedicated bicycle track.

Jérôme Hénique, CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa, emphasised that the inauguration marks a significant strategic milestone and reflects Orange’s ongoing leadership and commitment to digital transformation in Jordan.

He stated that the new centre is a key component of Orange’s long-term strategy to provide advanced and secure digital infrastructure, supporting business growth and reinforcing Jordan’s position as a regional hub for data and digital services.

Philippe Mansour, CEO of Orange Jordan, said the facility enhances the company’s role as a responsible and innovative digital service provider in the Kingdom.

He noted that the data centre has expandable capacity up to 500 racks with a total capacity of 5 megawatts, designed to meet the increasing demands of the business sector and support the provision of innovative digital solutions aligned with sector needs.

The inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including Governor of Ain Al Basha District Ibrahim Rawahneh; Mayor of Ain Al Basha Jamal Al Faouri; French Ambassador to Jordan Alexis Lecourt Grandmaison; Bassam Sarhan, Chair of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission; Jacques Schenbroich, Chair of the Orange Group Board of Directors; Jérôme Hénique, CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa; Raslan Deiranieh, Chair of Orange Jordan’s Board of Directors; Philippe Mansour, CEO of Orange Jordan; and members of the company’s executive team.
