Minister of Health Reviews Rehabilitation and Needs of Soba University Hospital

Khartoum, April 7, 2026 (SUNA) – Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim received a detailed briefing on Soba Teaching Hospital, affiliated with the University of Khartoum, including its needs and rehabilitation requirements. He congratulated the hospital administration on the commencement of the first phase of operations, as well as the resumption of the Mycetoma Center. During the meeting held Tuesday at his office at the Ministry, in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Khartoum, Professor Imad Al-Din Al-Tahir Aradaib, and the hospital delegation headed by Deputy Director Dr. Mustafa Al-Noor, the Minister directed the provision of necessary support across all fields to restore the hospital to its former status. This includes following up on projects with donors, securing equipment, medical devices, and ambulances, following the destruction caused during the war. He pointed to the possibility of benefiting from support provided by entities such as the King Salman Center and the State of Qatar, in addition to support through various national programs. The University Director, Professor Imad Al-Din Al-Tahir Aradaib, affirmed the continuation of cooperation and coordination between the University and the Health Ministry, noting that the meeting aimed to brief the Minister on operations at Soba Hospital and the Mycetoma Center. He added that significant destruction had affected the University and its affiliated hospitals, while confirming the resumption of academic studies. Meanwhile, Deputy Director of the hospital, Dr. Mustafa Al-Noor, announced the official reopening of the hospital on May 1, noting that partial operations have been ongoing for six months across several divisions. He added that the first childbirth procedure is scheduled for April 19, stressing the need for equipment and supplies to address shortages caused by the war, alongside preparations to resume specialized services such as gastrointestinal surgery, neurosurgery, endoscopy, nephrology, and microsurgery.BH/BH
