Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare Mua’tasim Ahmed Salih affirmed that the file of internally displaced persons (IDPs) is a top priority on the Ministry’s agenda, stressing that improving their humanitarian, service, and social conditions is a strategic objective the state seeks to achieve under the current circumstances. Speaking on Sunday at his office during a meeting with a delegation from the Zamzam IDP Camp Victims Committee in North Darfur, the Minister said the Ministry is closely following the suffering of displaced persons and is working to ensure the necessary protection for them. He praised the strong national role of the people of Zamzam camp and their steadfast support on the ground alongside the Armed Forces, the Joint Forces, and popular resistance in defending Al-Fashir. The Minister strongly condemned the crimes committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against the camp’s residents, describing the targeting of children, women, and the elderly, as well as the pursuit of displaced persons even to Shala Prison, as a “fully-fledged crime that history will not let go unpunished.” He praised the pivotal role of Northern State government and its people in hosting and accommodating displaced persons across its seven localities and designated camps. He announced the approval of a new IDP camp at kilometer 70 near Dongola and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing all necessary administrative and service requirements. For his part, the Head of the Zamzam IDP Camp Victims Committee, Hassan Sabir Juma, called on the government to intensify efforts on IDP issues, particularly in humanitarian and service aspects, affirming that the committee represents the legitimate body expressing the suffering and aspirations of the camp’s residents. The Minister concluded the meeting by expressing hope that peace and stability would prevail across all parts of the country, and that displaced persons would return to their original homes and areas at the earliest opportunity.BH/BH
