Port Sudan, June 23, 2026 (SUNA) — Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Engineer Seif Al-Nasr Al-Tijani Haroun, on Tuesday inaugurated the Damadama revetment protection project at Al-Kheir Port, implemented by the General Administration of Projects at the Red Sea Ports Authority. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mohamed Nour Abdel-Daim, the Director-General of the Red Sea Ports Corporation (SPC), Engineer Gailani Mohamed Gailani, along with other SPC officials, representatives of the regular forces, and the executing company. The Minister praised the staff of the ports, describing them as “heroes of the ports” for their achievements despite exceptional circumstances. He said the ongoing projects at the Red Sea Ports Authority were not surprising given the leadership of its Director-General and noted that Sudanese ports possess strategic capabilities that qualify them to become a gateway to Africa and the world and a hub for receiving various vessels, including transshipment ships, thereby supporting the national economy. State Minister at the Ministry of Finance Mohamed Nour Abdel-Daim described the Damadama project as a significant addition to reconstruction and development efforts, stressing its importance in securing the berth and ensuring smooth vessel movement, while also serving as an investment in strengthening the national economy.  The Director-General of the Red Sea Ports Corporation said the project reflects the capacity of national port engineers to deliver despite challenges, noting that it was completed in six and a half months. He reaffirmed the SPC commitment to implementing strategic projects and referred to the inauguration of the “giant berth” at Al-Kheir Port last week to receive petroleum products. Deputy Director-General for Planning and Development Hassan Jaafar said the project was implemented by the Indian Tridel Technologies Group, extending 1,600 linear metres at a cost of $2,387,952, and was completed 15 days ahead of schedule. He added that it represents a first line of defence in protecting the port from marine conditions.BH/BH
