Ministry of Agriculture Participates in FAO Regional Conference for Africa

Nouakchott, 17 April 2026 (SUNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation participated in the 34th session of the Regional Conference for Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), held in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, from 13 to 17 April 2026, with the participation of agriculture ministers and senior officials from more than 50 African countries. The conference represents the highest regional platform for decision-making on agriculture and food security issues in the continent. It addresses priorities for the next phase and outlines pathways for transforming agricultural and food systems, including enhancing productivity, achieving sustainability, addressing climate change impacts, improving value chains, and strengthening food security. The conference also places particular focus on promoting innovation and investment in the agricultural sector through the adoption of climate-smart agriculture technologies, support for scientific research, and expanding financing opportunities for agricultural projects. It further highlights the integration of youth into agricultural policies and programmes in a more comprehensive manner; a step being implemented at this level for the first time. In this context, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Prof. Ismat Gurashi participated in the opening of the Global Food Security Forum, held on 15 April 2026 as part of the conference’s activities.BH/BH
