Khartoum, Jan. 27, 2026 (SUNA) – The Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Professor Ahmed Al-Tijani Al-Mansouri, held a video conference with Vice-Chancellor of Al-Butana University, Dr. Mahmoud Yagoub, as part of the ministry’s collaboration with Sudanese universities to develop the sector and increase meat and dairy production. During the meeting, the Minister and University Chancellor discussed establishing a cooperative association for professors to stabilize their positions and provide them with practical projects, including goat and sheep breeding, fish farming, and beekeeping for honey production. Financing will be offered through banks on easy terms, utilizing the university’s 300-acre land, and plans include building an oil factory to produce ombaz [the protein-rich byproduct of oilseed processing used as livestock feed].The discussion also covered establishing a modern camel racetrack to attract Gulf investors, as well as breeding deer and birds.Professor Al-Mansouri highlighted the potential of the Camel Research Centre to support the production of organic meat products—such as burgers, sausages, and meatballs—and leather manufacturing to access European markets. He added that the Wali of Al-Gadarif has approved granting the ministry land for a livestock production city, which will focus on producing organic meat not currently available in Sudan, in line with the ministry’s national strategy, particularly in the field of fish farming.AS/BH
