Amman, Jan. 19 (Petra) — The Lower House of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by MP Haitham Ziyadin, met on Sunday with Indonesian Ambassador Ade Padmo Sarwono to discuss relations and ways to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors in support of the interests of the two peoples.
Ziyadin underscored the depth of Jordanian-Indonesian relations, which he said extend back more than 75 years, noting that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, attaches particular importance to developing ties with friendly countries, including Indonesia.
He referred to the recent Royal visit to Jakarta and the exchange of decorations between the two countries’ leaderships, stressing the need to build on the visit’s outcomes by facilitating the implementation of signed agreements and memoranda of understanding and removing obstacles that may impede execution.
Ziyadin said Indonesia represents a significant model in the Islamic world for respecting pluralism and social cohesion, noting that this aligns with Jordan’s approach as a state committed to peace and stability.
He commended Indonesia’s positions in support of Islamic causes, foremost the Palestinian cause, and its backing of the King’s efforts toward the two-state solution and peace, as well as its support for the historic Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
He called for expanding economic and investment cooperation, pointing to Jordan’s investment advantages and its security and stability, which position the Kingdom as a regional economic gateway and an attractive hub for investment.
Committee members MPs Huda Naffa, Mohammad Sabailah, and Iman Abbasi affirmed their commitment to supporting broader cooperation with Indonesia across sectors, emphasizing that the committee will continue to back this direction through its parliamentary, diplomatic, and coordinating role.
Sarwono praised the depth of historical relations and affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to further develop the partnership with Jordan.
He said the King’s visit to Indonesia was an important milestone that helped advance cooperation, noting that an MoU was signed to deepen bilateral relations and that progress was reviewed on several ongoing cooperation tracks.
The ambassador said Jordan and Indonesia maintain continuous coordination and consultations on regional and international issues of mutual interest, reflecting deep mutual understanding on a range of issues.
He said both countries are seeking to expand economic and investment cooperation, noting that Jordan is a key source of phosphate used in fertilizer production in Indonesia. He added that there remains significant untapped potential in tourism and culture, with efforts underway to develop joint programs in both fields.
He reiterated Indonesia’s consistent and unified support for the Palestinian cause in international forums, commending Jordan’s role, under the King’s leadership, in promoting security and stability in the region.
He also praised Jordan’s efforts to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza, noting Indonesia’s active participation in Solidarity Path Operation 2, led by Jordan, as a reflection of the depth of bilateral partnership.
