Niagara, Canada, May 25 (Petra) – The Niagara Falls was lit up in the colors of the Jordanian flag Sunday evening as the Kingdom marked its 79th independence anniversary.

In a press release, the Jordanian Embassy in Ottawa, which organized the event in cooperation with local authorities in Niagara, said members of the Jordanian community, diplomats, and others joined the celebration.

Jordanians in Canada expressed their pride in and appreciation for “this symbolic gesture, which embodies Jordan’s international standing and the values of belonging and loyalty to the homeland and its Hashemite leadership,” the embassy said.

The Jordanians said it underlined the deep Jordanian-Canadian ties, and voiced their pride in their country’s achievements, adding that independence day is an occasion to renew the pledge and allegiance to the homeland.

Illuminating Niagara Falls with the national colors of a foreign country is a global tradition to honor countries on their national occasions, and it reflects Canadian society’s respect of cultural diversity, the statement pointed out.
