Khartoum, July 18, 2026 (SUNA) – Secretary-General of the General Nuba Union Buthaina Khalifa Gouda said the Union was established to promote nation-building, stressing that Sudan needs to restore its national unity. Speaking at the 58th media forum organized by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) at the Omdurman Cultural Center on the Union President’s visit to Sudan and efforts to unify initiatives for peace and stability, Buthaina said: “We came together so that we could unite and agree on supporting Sudan in preserving its security, stability, and social harmony in all its diversity.” She said the General Nuba Union is registered as a civil society organization and has launched several initiatives, most notably the Nuba Dialogue and the Nuba-State Dialogue. She added that dialogue remains the Union’s preferred approach and noted that it has consistently condemned all violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in its official statements. Buthaina said the Nuba Mountains region has endured more than 40 years of conflict, prompting the Union to prioritize ending armed confrontation and preserving social cohesion. She added that the latest war had a particularly severe impact on Dilling and Kadugli, where forces loyal to Abdelaziz Al-Hilu and the RSF deprived civilians of their basic rights and forced many residents to flee their homes. She praised the role of the media, describing it as the vanguard of the “Battle of Dignity,” and said its messaging had played a significant role in confronting the campaign against the country, restoring public confidence, and preserving the nation’s dignity. The Secretary-General of the General Nuba Union also paid tribute to the Sudanese Armed Forces and the supporting forces for their role in the existential battle.BH/BH
