Muscat, 9 Feb
2026 (ONA) — Acting in cooperation with the National Museum, Oman Historical
Association today launched a new book titled “Oman’s History and Military
Heritage”, authored by Falih Saif Al Maamari.
The ceremony
was held under the auspices of Eng. Ibrahim bin Said Al Kharousi,
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, for Heritage.
The book serves
as a comprehensive scholarly study of Oman’s history and its military heritage, spanning a broad range of time, right from the 4th millennium BC to the Renewed Renaissance Era led
by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
The book
lays emphasis on the study of wars and highlights the development of weapons,
armies, fortifications and military tactics and strategies used throughout the
ages.
The book quotes
a variety of sources, including discourse on archaeological discoveries,
written evidence, rock inscriptions, manuscripts and historical documents, in
addition to references in Omani, Arab and foreign publications.
The book launch
reflects the efforts undertaken by Oman Historical Association and the National Museum to document Oman’s national
history, preserve its cultural memory and raise public awareness about the
importance of military heritage as a pillar of Omani identity.
