Amman, Jan 21 (Petra) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Wednesday condemned Israeli occupation forces’ bulldozing of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) offices in Jerusalem.
The OIC considered the demolition “a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation” of the UN Charter and its resolutions, the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations.
The occupation authority’s targeting of UNRWA headquarters is part of its illegal attempts to liquidate the refugee issue through undermining the agency’s existence and vital role as a testament to the international community’s commitment to the issue of Palestinian refugees and the protection of their rights under relevant UN resolutions, it said in a statement.
The Islamic organization reiterated an appeal to the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take the necessary decisions and action to protect UNRWA’s mandate, facilities, and staff, and to compel Israel to cease violations and live up to its obligations under international law.
