Expresses Solidarity with Kuwait Regarding Its Maritime Zones
Muscat,
23 Feb 2026 (ONA) — The Sultanate of Oman has viewed with great interest the
lists of coordinates and the map deposited by the Republic of Iraq to the
United Nations, which contain infringements on the sovereignty of the State of
Kuwait over its maritime zones and its fixed and stable submerged features.
In
a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry today, the Sultanate of Oman
affirmed its solidarity with the State of Kuwait regarding its sovereignty over
all its maritime zones and submerged features.
The
Sultanate of Oman called upon the Republic of Iraq to take into consideration
the course of its historical and fraternal relations with the State of Kuwait,
the principles of good neighborliness, and the rules of international law, as
well as the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea
(UNCLOS) of 1982, in accordance with the understandings, agreements, and
bilateral memoranda of understanding signed between the two brotherly
countries.
