Zarqa, June 18 (Petra) – The Royal Film Commission (RFC) has approved support for the production of a short film addressing social and cultural issues inspired by the city of Zarqa as part of a project led by the Faculty of Media at Zarqa University.

The grant marks the culmination of a specialized short filmmaking workshop organized by the RFC in cooperation with the Zarqa Directorate of Culture and hosted by the Zarqa Film Center. The initiative aimed to nurture young talents, refine their cinematic skills, and cultivate a deeper passion for the art of filmmaking.

Ali Saqr, a young filmmaker and student at the university’s Faculty of Media, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra), “Throughout the workshop, we undertook a comprehensive journey from scriptwriting and directing to shooting, editing, and ultimately producing a fully realized short film. The experience gave us the tools to transform ideas into compelling visual narratives that resonate with society.”

Saqr added that 13 film proposals were submitted after the training, all reflecting the pulse and challenges of life in Zarqa. The RFC selected three projects to support, including his own film, titled Nabd (Pulse).

Amjad Safori, Dean of the Faculty of Media at Zarqa University, praised the RFC’s role in fostering young creative talent and providing them with platforms to turn theoretical knowledge into impactful visual storytelling.

He emphasized that the college prioritizes hands-on training to empower students with the tools of visual expression and help them establish a meaningful presence in Jordan’s cultural and media landscapes.

Safori added that the selection of Nabd among the supported projects is a testament to the quality of the training and the importance of strategic partnerships with cultural institutions in nurturing purposeful student creativity.
