Panhandler in Irbid found with JD752 in cash – Authorities

Irbid, May 19 (Petra) – Anti-begging teams in the northern region apprehended a beggar in Irbid with JD752 in cash collected through panhandling, the Ministry of Social Development said on Monday.

The individual was referred to the relevant authorities for legal action, the ministry said in a statement.

A background check revealed the person owns property and is not in financial distress, according to the ministry.

The ministry urged the public not to give money to street beggars and instead direct charitable donations to licensed organizations that are authorized to run fundraising campaigns.

It warned that many panhandlers feign illness or claim financial need to solicit money.

The ministry also encouraged citizens to report suspected cases of begging via its dedicated hotline at 0793344330 or through the nationwide anti-begging task forces.
