Petra, May 26 (Petra) — The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) illuminated the facade of the Treasury monument in Petra in the colors of the Jordanian flag on Sunday evening, as part of national celebrations marking the 79th anniversary of the Kingdom’s independence.

The symbolic gesture was organized to honor the occasion and express national pride, reflecting Petra’s significance as both a cultural icon and a unifying landmark. The event featured a festive atmosphere, with the iconic site bathed in red, white, green, and black lights representing the national flag.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Chief Commissioner of the Authority, Fares Breizat, said the lighting ceremony demonstrates the Petra region’s deep commitment to national values and the enduring importance of Independence Day in Jordanian public life. “This initiative highlights Petra’s role in sharing the collective joy of Jordanians and projecting an image of a proud, unified nation to the world,” he noted.

In addition to the lighting event, the authority has decorated public buildings and streets across Petra with national flags and is preparing a series of community-based activities in collaboration with local residents. These efforts aim to reinforce national unity and underscore Petra’s identity as a symbol of Jordanian heritage and resilience.

The Treasury, one of the most recognized archaeological landmarks in the region, frequently serves as a backdrop for national celebrations, connecting the Kingdom’s ancient history to its modern national identity.
