Mafraq, Aug. 23 (Petra) – Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Sunday
inaugurated the new 200-dunum Mafraq Park, the first public park of
its kind in the governorate, and directed the comprehensive
renovation of nearby sports facilities at Al al-Bayt University to
complement the park and serve the local community.

The park, located next to Al al-Bayt University, was completed within
18 months of the government’s decision to establish it and will open
to the public free of charge starting Sunday.

During the visit, Hassan inspected the university’s sports facilities
and directed that they be renovated and integrated with the park to
expand opportunities for sports and youth activities in Mafraq.

The university’s facilities include a main stadium with tiered
seating, 10 courts for football, basketball, tennis and volleyball,
as well as a running track.

The new park features 10,000 trees planted earlier this year,
providing expanded green and recreational spaces in line with the
government’s efforts to increase public parks and green areas. It
includes 600 meters of walking and cycling paths, four sports fields,
a large outdoor sports complex, including an area designated for
senior citizens, three children’s play areas, rest areas and service
facilities. Parking is also available for hundreds of vehicles, while
surveillance cameras have been installed to enhance security.

The park was expanded during the initial stages of its construction
to accommodate a wider range of sports and recreational activities
and serve the largest possible number of residents and visitors.

Its establishment forms part of the government’s broader efforts to
expand public parks and recreational facilities, which include the
completed Nashama Park in Marj al-Hamam and the Dead Sea Corniche and
Tourist Beach, in addition to other projects currently underway.

The Joint Services Council in Mafraq Governorate will manage and
supervise the park.
