Amman, Aug. 26 (Petra) – The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development will
finance vocational and technical education and energy projects in
Jordan worth $110 million, in addition to providing $300 million in
new concessional financing to support the Kingdom’s general budget.
The funding was announced Wednesday during a meeting between Prime
Minister Jafar Hassan and Abu Dhabi Fund for Development Director
General Mohamed Suwaidi, who is visiting Jordan to sign agreements
related to the new financing.
The projects include the construction of five vocational and
technical schools in Amman, Mafraq, Jerash and Irbid at a cost of
about $40 million, supporting the government’s strategy to expand
vocational and technical education.
The fund will also provide $70 million to supply Rawda Industrial
City in Ma’an and Muwaqqar Industrial City with natural gas.
Studies are also underway to extend financing for a project to supply
the King Hussein Bin Talal Development Area in Mafraq with natural
gas.
The projects are part of the government’s plan to supply industrial
cities and clusters with natural gas to support the industrial
sector, reduce energy costs, improve the business environment, and
enhance the competitiveness of Jordanian products in local and
international markets.
During the meeting, Hassan highlighted the deep-rooted relations
between Jordan and the United Arab Emirates and the progress achieved
in joint economic and development projects. He also commended the
UAE’s support for Jordan’s development efforts and the Abu Dhabi
Fund’s role in financing strategic projects in the Kingdom.
Suwaidi, for his part, highlighted the longstanding partnership
between the two countries and the fund’s continued support for
Jordan’s development priorities and national plans.
Over the past five years, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development has
provided Jordan with nearly $1 billion in aid and grants for projects
in education, energy, digital transformation at the Ministry of
Health, and development of land adjacent to the Baptism Site.
