Khartoum, 29 July 2026 (SUNA) – Prime Minister Prof. Kamel Idris on Wednesday inaugurated the second phase of the reconstruction of university students’ housing complexes in Khartoum State, which included the opening of seven residential complexes, in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Prof. Ahmed Mudawi Musa and other officials. The Prime Minister praised the sacrifices of the Armed Forces, Joint Forces, General Intelligence Service, Police, supporting forces and popular mobilization forces in the Battle of Dignity, and commended the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, for his leadership during the battles of liberation. He paid tribute to the martyrs and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded, stressing that the inauguration of these facilities demonstrates that reconstruction and development efforts are continuing despite challenges. Prof. Kamel Idris described the reconstruction of student housing as no less important than the battle for restoring the nation’s stability, emphasizing that students represent Sudan’s hope and future. He announced his sponsorship of the third phase of the reconstruction project under the supervision of the National Fund for Student Welfare. The Prime Minister praised all those who contributed to the project and said Sudan is approaching a final stage of restoring stability across the country. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research commended the National Fund for Student Welfare for its efforts in rehabilitating student housing and creating a suitable academic environment, noting that the ministry remains committed to expanding student welfare services and supporting the return of higher education institutions to their original campuses. He added that the reconstruction of university cities forms part of a comprehensive plan to restore stability for students and support the educational process, with preparations underway for the 2026–2027 academic admission season following the decision to resume operations at higher education institutions from 1 August. The Secretary-General of the National Fund for Student Welfare stated that the project represents a message of hope and reflects the government’s commitment to investing in human development, emphasizing that rebuilding student housing goes beyond constructing buildings to creating a safe and supportive educational environment.He expressed appreciation to all government institutions, national organizations and partners who
